# Vivu MCP server: search your video projects from Claude or any MCP client.

Vivu runs a remote MCP server that you add to Claude under Settings → Connectors, from the connector directory or by its address. Once you sign in, Claude can create a project, give you a page to upload video into it, and search that project in plain language after indexing finishes. ChatGPT and other MCP clients connect to the same server ([how](https://vivu.ai/mcp#clients)). A search comes back as time ranges from your videos, with a result page where you can play each one and prepare the original clip for download. Vivu finds moments in footage you already have. It does not edit or generate video.

Vivu is listed in Claude's directory. Open the listing, select Connect, and sign in with your Vivu account — nothing to paste and nothing to install.

## What the connector does

The connector gives Claude access to the video projects in your Vivu account. Video goes into a project through an upload page in your browser. Vivu indexes each file once in the cloud, across what is said and what is on screen, and the project stays searchable after that, from any new conversation, without uploading the footage again.

When Claude searches, it gets back candidate moments for the question, as time ranges you can open, and it can hand you the result page so you can check them against the source footage yourself. The Vivu web app and the connector use the same account, projects and credits.

### From the connector directory

1. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and choose Discover.
2. Search for Vivu and select Connect, or open the [Vivu listing](https://claude.ai/directory/vivu) directly and select Connect there.
3. Sign in with Google or your Vivu email account.
4. Allow the Vivu tools in your conversation.

### Or add it by address

1. In Settings → Connectors, choose Add custom connector.
2. Enter `https://mcp.vivu.ai/mcp` and name the connector Vivu.
3. Select Connect, sign in, and allow the Vivu tools in your conversation.

Signing in is an OAuth flow that happens outside the chat, and nothing in a project is reachable until you have signed in and allowed the connector. No Vivu account yet? ## Other MCP clients

Claude is the main setup, and the steps above are written for it. Vivu works with any other MCP client that can add a remote server over Streamable HTTP with OAuth sign-in, ChatGPT included. Add `https://mcp.vivu.ai/mcp` in that client and sign in with the same Vivu account. The projects, uploads and credits are the same ones you use from Claude. The examples on this page say Claude; in another client you ask for the same things.

## Upload and indexing

Ask Claude to create or pick a project and open its upload page. The link opens the Vivu web app, signed in to the same account. Upload the files in your browser and keep that page open until the transfer finishes. Any common video format is accepted.

Indexing runs in the cloud in the background. A video becomes searchable when its indexing finishes, which comes after the upload completes, and Claude can tell you which videos in a project are still indexing. The upload sign-in link has to be opened within three minutes. That limit applies to the link only, not to how long a video can be.

## Search and results

A search runs inside one project and takes a plain-language description of the moment you want. There are two modes. Fast search returns candidate moments directly. Precise search runs a refinement pass on top of that and is asynchronous, so Claude waits until the job is complete before it reports back. A fast search uses one credit; a precise search uses five in total.

What comes back is a set of time ranges from the videos in that project, plus a link to a result page where you can preview each one. On that page, select a result and choose Export original clip to prepare a download of that segment. The result link expires after four hours. After that, ask Claude for a new link.

## Current limits

- A search runs inside exactly one project. There is no search across projects.
- Precise search is asynchronous. Claude has to wait for the job to complete.
- A video can be searched once its indexing finishes, not when its upload does.
- Result-page links expire after four hours; ask for a new one after that.
- Deleting a video or a project is permanent and cannot be undone, whether you do it in the web app or ask Claude to. Keep your own copies of the videos you upload.
- Vivu does not cut, edit or generate video. The edit happens in your own tools.

## Privacy and the data path

Video you upload goes into a project in your Vivu account and is indexed once in Vivu's cloud. Searches from Claude run against that index, which is why a new conversation does not need the footage again. Uploaded video stays in your account until you delete the video or the project. Deleting one, in the web app or by asking Claude, is permanent and removes its media from Vivu's cloud. There is no anonymous access: the connector works only after you sign in and allow it. ## Troubleshooting

- Claude does not offer the Vivu tools. Check that Vivu shows as connected under Settings → Connectors, and that its tools are allowed in this conversation.
- The upload link no longer works. Its sign-in link has to be opened within three minutes, so ask Claude for the upload page again.
- Search returns nothing. Check that the videos finished indexing, not only uploading, and that you searched the project they are in.
- A precise search is still running. It is asynchronous; ask Claude to keep checking the same search until it completes.
- The result page no longer opens. Result links expire after four hours. Ask Claude for a new link.
- A video or project was deleted by mistake. Deletion cannot be undone, so it cannot be restored; upload the video again from your own copy.
