No, not all at once. Your chat history is saved to your account so you can scroll back through it. But while it's working in a chat, the assistant sees that chat plus whatever a memory feature or past-chat search brings in. In Claude and ChatGPT, past-chat search can look up earlier conversations and read the relevant parts when you've switched it on. It still doesn't hold your whole history in view. It can't see other people's chats, apps you haven't connected, or files you never shared with it.
What "access to my chat history" actually means
People mean two different things by chat history. One is storage: the list of past conversations in your sidebar, which you can read and which the app keeps until you delete it. The other is what the assistant has in front of it while it answers, and that is much smaller.
By default, the second thing is just the current conversation. Memory features add short saved notes about you. Past-chat search, where it exists and is enabled, lets the assistant search your earlier chats and pull in pieces. So "can you read my chat history" has a practical answer: it can read the parts it searches for, once you've allowed it to search.
Projects work the same way on a smaller scale. Chats inside a project share its instructions and files. Chats outside the project don't see them.
What it can't see
Other people's conversations aren't visible to the assistant in your chat, even in a shared workspace, unless someone has deliberately shared one with you. Your email, your cloud drive and your computer's files are invisible too, unless you connect them. A chat you've deleted no longer shows up in what past-chat search can find, though a saved memory created from it may need deleting separately.
Connected tools change the picture
Connectors are where the boundary moves. When you add one, the assistant can call that tool and see what it returns. A video connector such as Vivu shows where the line falls: what lands in the chat is the result of a search the assistant runs, which is a few time ranges with a short reason for each, while the footage itself stays in a Vivu project whose access you control. Deleting the project or a video removes the cloud media, and that is separate from deleting the conversation you searched it in.
The same logic applies to any tool that holds sensitive material. If you work with other people's footage, keeping footage separate when AI tools are involved is mostly about deciding which tool the assistant can reach and what sits inside it. Whether a connector for a private video library fits your setup depends on the same question.
How to control what it sees
Review your saved memories in settings and delete the ones you don't want. Turn off past-chat reference if you'd rather each chat start clean. Use a temporary or incognito chat for one-off questions you don't want stored. Delete chats you no longer need. Disconnect connectors you've stopped using, since each one is a tool the assistant could still call.
When this doesn't matter much
If you use an assistant for quick, one-off questions, the history it can reach is mostly irrelevant. It starts to matter when you paste in sensitive material, when several people share one account, or when you connect tools that hold your own or a client's files.
How to judge your own setup
If your worry is privacy, the sidebar list is only part of the picture. Memory settings and connected tools decide what the assistant can pull into a new chat, so look there first. If your worry is continuity, it works the other way around: turn on past-chat search or use projects, and keep important material somewhere the assistant can search, instead of hoping it recalls the right thing.
FAQ
Can you see my other chats?
Only through a memory or past-chat search feature, and only if it's turned on. Without those, an assistant sees the current conversation and nothing else. With past-chat search on, it can look up other chats in your account and read the relevant parts when you ask, or when it judges them useful.
If I delete a chat, does the assistant forget it?
The chat disappears from your history and is no longer available to past-chat search. Anything a memory feature saved from that chat may be stored separately, so check your saved memories and delete those entries too.
Can an AI assistant see my files if I connect a tool?
It can see what that tool returns when the assistant calls it, within the permissions you granted when you connected it. Connecting one tool doesn't give the assistant a general view of your computer or your other accounts. Removing the connector stops any further calls, but results already returned stay in the chats where they appeared.
